Current state of my writing skills in English

Welcome to my blog for the Academic Writing class.

Honestly, languages are not my strength. At the secondary modern school I struggled with the English language, already (and with German too). Even it was hard for me to learn English, I realized sufficiently early how important it is to have a good English knowledge on a certain level, orally and in writing.

After the secondary modern school I successfully completed the business school, where I also did my A-levels in English.

Immediately after finishing the business school I started to work. Unfortunately, I was not able to improve my English skills – I was not even able to hold the reached level. Although I had to speak English quite often, most my conversation partners had a lower English level than I had and faster than I ever thought my English got really poor.

At the university I had to fight to get back to the level I already had and it has taken me a lot of effort to improve. Vocabulary has been lacking and my grammar wasn’t (isn’t) that good.

I already had to write some seminar works in English, but because of a missing feedback it’s impossible to learn a lot form the writings.

As I am aware of the importance of proper English skills I have decided to choose the course ‘academic writing’. I want to improve my English skills as best as I can and I want to be able to write an English paper without fear – although I know this will become a hard and stony way for me - I am looking forward to facing the challenge to do the class successfully and improving my skills a lot.
