In my opinion, this course has enormous importance for students, who decided to do a major in English. The “Academic Writing” course explains the essentials of writing academic papers in English, and puts special emphasis on the APA style, which is a requirement for academic works in English-speaking countries. As I did several English courses this term, I can confirm, that without practicing academic writing and without the knowledge about the most important writing guidelines, it is impossible to absolve other English courses of this major.

The course was very well structured: we did not have to write a term paper all at once, but we had time and several attempts to prepare parts of the paper separately. That helped a lot. Getting feedback from my colleagues during the “peer reviews” was also an essential part of the course, which helped us to gain new ideas and get a fair, varied feedback.

The next positive aspect about the course is that everyone could choose his or her own topic for the term paper. There was no predefined topic. Hence, everyone could write about something he or she was really interested in. This made the writing process more pleasant and effective.
