Week 3: Struggling for an outline
viktoria.zeier.uni-linz, 21. Oktober 2012, 14:15
Apart from the thesis statement which was already challenge enough, this week I have to form an outline for my paper. This means organizing ideas and thoughts. To be honest, this is more than necessary because I havn't put enough thought in my topic to clearly see the limits of which ideas will be in and which will be out.
The outline is a very important step in the development of a paper. Those few thousand words as quickly written, but the outline is the framework around which the paper will built up. This means I have to say goodbye to some thoughs way before the time I usually do when writing a paper. Maybe its better this way - often it happened that I had already written a page about an idea which in the end didn't fit the paper at all.
It gives me a headache, because for me the outline is the whole paper. It is the essence, the soul and it needs to be as good as possible. The end product rises and falls with it.

Dear Victoria,
I fully agree with you as far as I feel the same. I was struggling too while writing the sentence outline, because it is really somehow the most important part. It is difficult to organize your ideas, to collect them and to put into appropriate parts of the outline. However this process is vital, as far as the further writing will be based on this outline. The more effectively we write the sentence outline, the easier it will be for us to write the paper itself.
Hope we all cope with it!
Kindest regards,
Zhuldyz
