Academic writing

One of my first working experiences right after school was in an international company where I was responsible for promotion articles which I had to organize from Far East. In this period my English was not really good and I sometimes had to struggle to deal with all business matters so I decided that I really have to improve my English skills.

After doing the Advanced Cambridge Certificate during my maternity leave several years ago, I didn't have a lot to deal with the English knowledge because I was working part time in small companies. For this reason I attended the English courses right after the beginning of my studies in economic science at the JKU branch in Gmunden.

My English skills especially in speaking and writing improved a lot during this time because we were a small group in class and with Mr Brewster we had a good teacher, but after heading on in Linz most of the classes afterwards were held in German.

I was thinking a lot of doing one of the majors in English, but in the beginning I thought my knowledge would be too little to be successful.

In the meantime I am in the middle of the major in International Management and all the classes are held in English and I have to speak, read and write everything in English, too (reader, case studies and exams included). Due to this circumstance I have decided to register in Academic writing in order to learn how to write an academic paper in detail and get more involved in
using the English language orally.

Unfortunately, because of my private circumstances it is not possible for me to do a semester or year abroad and for this reason I have decided to take any possibility to improve my English skills at the university.

Despite the importance of the English knowledge in international business and my personal interest in this language, I have taken the opportunity to improve my skills further. The main interest for me for this class is the improvement of my writing skills and the vocabulary because I have to write a lot of papers at the university and for the future I am planning to work in an international company. My aim for this class is to become a competent partner within an English business conversation and to be able to write and present my business strategies in this important language on an academic level.
