Jane Monheit grew up singing. Her formal vocal training began at age 17, when she enrolled at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, to study with Peter Eldrige of the New York Voices. Taking part in the Thelonius Monk Institute's Vocal Competition (the jury included Dee Dee Bridgewater, Diana Krall and Dianna Reeves) she won second place behind veteran Teri Thornton. Her debut CD "Never Never Land" won her international critical acclaim and was covered extensively in the press. It was number two on the Billboard charts. Like Diana Krall, she gave her debut in Europe as part of the "RISING STARS" Jazz Circuit (in February 2001). Wherever she went the concerts were sold out weeks before.
