first reflective piece

Hello everyone!
This is my first entry and I at this time I have to answer some questions to reflect on my writing skills in English.
At the moment I wouldn't write anything besides what I need to write for school or for work. So it’s writing summaries, transcripts or letters. I just recently wrote a review on an article posted in an academic journal for a class, which was something that I haven’t written before. But if I reconsider I do write messages, emails and post ideas on facebook, too. I do that mostly in English as I communicate a lot with my international friends. Especially right now I try to keep updated on my friends in Japan.
I feel quite comfortable when I write in English. I feel actually a bit awkward when writing in German, so whenever I get to choose between writing a paper in German or in English I would definitely choose English. I’ve always had problems in writing no matter the language. I also have difficulties with putting ideas on paper. However, my love for the English language helps me a bit and this is why I feel more comfortable with writing in English rather than in German. Weird, huh?
But I definitely need to work on my writing skills. I need to improve my grammar skills as well as my academic writing skills. It is easy to write something but it’s difficult to write in a certain way with getting to the point and using the vocabulary suitable for an academic purpose.
I am looking forward to work on my topic and improve my writing. Further, I am looking forward to find out more about the topics my colleagues decided to work on.
Bye for now,
Lisa

As soon as I got done writing my first blog entry, I found out that I am not the only one writing at this time of the day - well or night.
I can very well understand your 'weird' choice of English over German. My choice would exactly be the same. The English language gives us such a wide array of describing feelings, so many more increments between good and bad or black and white. Even though in the end it might just come down to the point that we got to know our first foreign language a totally different way than our native language. We might have just developed a higher level of consciousness for something that we did not 'receive' unintentionally.
